Last night I had the privilege of an impromptu visit with a lovely bunch of quilters in Western Australia via @kraftdaze_sewingworld. I was made aware of an ‘AMH Inspiration Tea’ they had planned a few weeks ago by the wonderful @rosielinda17 when she asked if I might record a little two minute hello for everyone. I said, I can do better than that. I was meant to be teaching there last year, but like so much it did not happen. I am not one of those instructors who has had the resources or time to quickly switch to online teaching formats. Most of this is due to having all the kids schooling from home for the past year, switching gears in my retail shop day by day, not to mention getting my house on the market and all that entails. That said. I was quite proud of my mini studio set up by 8:15pm last night (10:15am next day Perth time) where I used the adjustable height of my ironing board to set my iPad on, and a roll of @libertylondon fabric to get the angle just right. Fan

It is often the background style prints, and not always the bolder feature prints, that I am most excited about having on my shelves. The ‘In Town’ print for my upcoming Bright Eyes collection is just such a print. As I’m using it for the background of an appliqué project, I am in LOVE with the subtle hand quilting guide that it provides vertically, horizontally and diagonally. I haven’t had to mark anything! I like designing plaid-like fabrics with a scale and a detail level that offers texture, but not so highly graphic that if it’s not cut on print line at the edge it still looks great. I already know I’ll want to reissue this one with more than the two current colors! 🧡💚 #amhbrighteyes

Hello 👋🏻 I have a fabulous Friday find for you! Look at the utterly gorgeous spin on traditional Mexican folk fashion that @rocinante_oaxaca is creating with my fabrics! I’m in love! ❤️ I’ve been pouring over all of their beautiful silhouettes, colors and embroidered details and I’ve written to see if there is an online purchasing option! I’d rather hop a flight to Oaxaca, but that could be a few months. ☺️ So inspiring!

Finished and Unfinished.

Every time I glance over there I imagine the framed cross stitch is bragging to the chair, an idea I had one weekend that has been untouched since. The framed piece is from my book Anna Maria’s Needleworks Notebook and it’s called Midnight Menagerie. ❤️ It’s one of my favorite made things. The chair is a 60’s piece that has seen many iterations over the years. For the first time in maybe 6 years (!!!!!) today I thought, wow that’ll be pretty when it’s finished, I should do that. But the feeling is a nice one of potential waiting for me, and never disappointment in what is not done. In fact, I think the framed piece has become an utter snob.

Hi 🙋🏻&zwj;♀️ I want to point you to the beautiful Spring 2021 publication of @milieumag that I have the honor of being a very tiny part of in their “Penchants” section. The editor @davidmasello and I had a very nice chat a few months ago. It is a rare individual that can perfectly capture a 30 minute conversation, and translate it so well into a few paragraphs. Thank you! But most especially for placing me in a series with a subtitle of ‘young artists and artisans at work’. 😂 Made my day- off to dig into the rest of it with my coffee. 📖 ☕️

Came over to a quiet @craftsouth today to have plenty of space to baste my Open Borders quilt 🥰 I’m so excited about using my pre-released “Optimistic” 108” wide back from my upcoming Bright Eyes collection! It is going to be the perfect flip side view to the very intense Open Borders patchwork. The backing and the rest of the collection will be shipping in May. My technique with the hard to wake up sort is one blanket at a time, a few minutes apart. But even this drill captain had to pause and consider before disturbing her beautiful, peaceful sleep. Nestled in her corner with her favorite soft things as the sunlight reflected off the snow and bounced light all around her room, a moment. But I peeled back Yiayia’s crocheted blanket of snow first. A stir. A few minutes later the quilt. A moan. Then I promised a cup of cocoa for two open eyes. Success. Happy Friday, hope your start is as bright and sweet. 😘❄️🌞

I just had the most fun playing with the first Applique Story Club stack (all @nathalie_lete) for 2021! After an hour-long digging out of my snow and ice covered car to get some groceries last night, I was able to (slowly) drive over to the shop this morning. @craftsouth is closed due to winter storms this week and postal service is patchy, but the crew is making a start on your February bundles! Even if you are not part of the Applique Club, all of these Woodland Walk prints are available in my online shop by the yard, and have arrived at your local shops worldwide. I hope this provides some inspiration for you to play. Thanks so much to our customers for your patience with our weather! I can feel Spring on the other side of this snow! ❄️🌸😍 Now let’s see if I can get home before the next few inches of snow start!

A little winter reflection on a personal favorite print. Four years ago I had just turned in the art for my Cacophony design. It was inspired by the beautiful birds of Australia that I still heard ringing in my head having just returned from the Southern Hemisphere. But looking out at the winter sky of Tennessee as I approached the drawings, I felt a greater symphony was in order. So the print includes Tennessee winter birds and Australian Summer birds to connect the two places for me. That connection is even more special to me now as we await the bridges to our favorite places around the world to open again. My dining room drapes are made from this fabric and recently I realized that is all I possess of it. So I tracked some down and purchased several more yards. You never know. My next home might have 3 or 4 windows in need of birds in body halos and not just 2. ☺️

It is so hard to keep a lid on the @conservatorycraft new tapestry kit plans that have been hatching for several months! There are 6 new designs to add to the first 4, and this time I’m in the lovely company of @nathalie_lete and @monika_forsberg for the release. The pieces are slowly coming in from my very helpful test stitchers and we are compiling final wool recipes and packaging parts and the like. Promising delivery dates of almost anything has become the single most challenging part of my work over the last year. Based on what I’ve been told we should be able to begin shipping these sometime in May and my current plan is to share all the designs and open up the presell in March. At that time we will do the same for restocking the first few designs. It is slow work, in a currently slow world, and I’m coming around to being okay with that. These are lifetime (and then some) type pieces. I love investing my heart and soul into that. ❤️ xxAM

Just 90 days or so until the anticipated arrival of Bright Eyes, my next core collection for @freespiritfabrics 🤩 This little beauty was made by @cindy_sews from what she had leftover after making the first Visions Quilt sample for us. (See previous post for that 💕) The pattern is a traditional one, but she used my oldie but goodie version -Folk Dance Quilt- from back in the Good Folks era. We’ll be making that pattern available again as a PDF in a few months. How pretty is the Bossy poppy on the back!? It is just 44” but the space between the blooms makes matching the print at a seam very easy. (But Cindy makes everything look easy!) 💕 Wishing you a good start to your week. 😘😘 #amhbrighteyes
