An update of a past favorite, Anna Maria offers this simple and spunky quilt design to help you play up your favorite fabrics. This was originally the “Dowry Quilt” but is updated and shown here in some of Anna Maria’s favorite Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Whether you play up the differences between color categories, or light and dark tones, this pattern is fantastic for a beginner, and joyful for the expert!

1-Crossover Finished Dimensions: 70” x 90”

Fabric Requirements:

  • 3/4 yard each of 4 solids: 2 lighter, 2 darker
    • or an assorted total of 1.5 yards light solids, and 1.5 yards dark solids
  • 3/4 yard each of 4 stripes: 2 lighter, and 2 darker
    • or an assorted total of 1.5 yards light stripes, and 1.5 yards dark stripes
  • 3/4 yards each of 12 large scale prints: 6 lighter, 6 darker
    • or an assorted total of 4.5 yards light prints, and 4.5 yards dark prints
  • Binding: 1/2-3/4 yard, depending on width & style (9 yards length total)
  • Backing: 3 yards (108" wide) or 5 1/2 yards (44" wide)
  • Batting: minimum 80” x 100”
  • Optional: 32 handmade fabric yo-yos (shown on Dowry quilt)

2-Criss Cross Applesauce Finished Dimensions: 48” square

Fabric Requirements:

  • 3/4 yard each of 4 tonal prints: two lighter, two darker
  • 1 yard each of 4 large scale floral fabrics (you might like them each to correspond with tonals)
  • Binding: 1/3-1/2 yard, depending on width & style (6 yards length of binding total)
  • Backing: 1 ½ yards (54” or wider)or 3 yards (44” wide)
  • Batting: minimum 60”x 60”

Keep in mind the finished blocks are 6” so the scale of floral features should suit!

Keep in mind the yardage needed could fluctuate based on the style of fabric and the repeat.
